What Are the New Mega Millions Rules?

From April 5, 2025, Mega Millions will introduce key rule changes, with the first draw under the new system happening on April 8, 2025. Here’s a breakdown of what’s changing:

1. Price Increase

The price to bet will increase from $2 to $5.

This change includes an automatic multiplier for non-jackpot prizes, replacing the current Megaplier feature.

2. Improved Jackpot Odds

The Mega Ball pool is reducing from 1-25 to 1-24

This means jackpot odds improve from 1 in 302.5 million to 1 in 290 million.

3. No More Megaplier & Just the Jackpot

These features will be removed and replaced by built-in multipliers included in every ticket.

The multiplier can be 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or even 10x, boosting non-jackpot winnings.

4. Higher Starting Jackpot

The starting jackpot will increase from $20 million (*€18.2 million) to $50 million (*€45.5 million). 

5. Increased Lower-Tier Prizes

The lowest-tier prize (matching only the Mega Ball) will rise from $2 to $5.

Matching 1 number + the Mega Ball will increase from $4 to $7.

How These Changes Affect Players In Ireland

At Lottoland, Mega Millions will remain available but just like the official game, we’re making some adjustments. The price to bet will increase from €3.50 to €7.50 in line with the updated game structure.

Additionally, while we adapt to the new lottery format, our multipliers will also change. During standard jackpots, there will be a fixed 3x multiplier, while for larger jackpots, it could go up to 10x!

The first draw under the new rules will take place at 11pm on April 8th in the USA, which is 4am on April 9th in Ireland.
