LOTTOLAND'S LEADERSHIP POSITION IN CLIMATE CHANGE
Lottoland is the first gambling operator to achieve a carbon-neutral status and to sign the Climate Pledge! Working with Tunley Engineering, a global climate reduction consultancy, we were provided with a Carbon Assessment that allowed us to fully comprehend and visualize our carbon footprint in annual tonnes of Carbon Equivalence.
Now, with a greater understanding of the Carbon Cost attached to energy use, business travel, and water use, we can make informed decisions in how to continue to make tangible reductions to our carbon footprint which by extension makes us a greener and more ethical company.
With the assessment and reduction completed in accordance with ISO 14064, we have now signed the Climate Pledge alongside over 200 other companies globally, further cementing our commitment to a greener future, and achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 or sooner!
Lottland’s CEO Nigel Birrell stated, “We are thrilled to have achieved a carbon-neutral status and to have signed the Climate Pledge. At Lottoland we are committed to being socially and environmentally responsible not just for our customers but for our employees too. We are proud to be taking a leadership position in climate change”.
THE CLIMATE PLEDGE COMMITMENTS
In 2019, Amazon and Global Optimism co-founded The Climate Pledge, a commitment to reach the Paris Agreement 10 years early and be net-zero carbon by 2040.
Now, Lottoland and over 200 organisations have signed The Climate Pledge, sending an important signal that there will be rapid growth in demand for products and services that help reduce carbon emissions.
Signatories commit to three principal areas of action:
- Regular reporting of greenhouse gas emissions
- Carbon elimination strategies in line with the Paris Agreement
- Credible offsets to achieve net-zero annual carbon emissions by 2040
Sally Fouts, the global lead at Amazon for the Climate Pledge explained, “Businesses have played a role in contributing to climate change, but deep cuts in emissions of greenhouse gases can stabilize increasing temperatures. This is why urgent, collaborative actions by companies around the world are needed. Pledge signatories are uniquely positioned to rise to the challenge of addressing climate change and helping to create the low-carbon economy of the future. I look forward to seeing all we can accomplish over the next two decades, together.”
This dedicated investment program – with an initial $2 billion in funding – will invest in visionary companies across different industry sectors whose products and solutions will assist the transition to a low-carbon economy.

I like to push myself outside my comfort zone and enjoy new experiences. At the end of the day, you can win the lottery, but you need to put yourself out there and buy the ticket first.
